Attendance Policy
Session fees
Each psychologist at Ascending Psychology sets their own session fees. You can find each clinician's fees on their individual profile page under Meet Us. Assessment and specialised work is quoted individually. We do not offer bulk billing.
Rebates and funding
Medicare. If your GP prepares a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you can claim a rebate for eligible sessions. We provide receipts and can process rebates at the time of payment.
Private health. Some extras policies cover psychology. Check with your fund.
EAP, insurers, NDIS (self or plan managed). We will discuss arrangements at intake.
Payment
We accept card, direct bank transfer, and cash. We hold an encrypted card on file for ongoing clients.
Attendance
When a session is cancelled at short notice, three people miss out. You miss the time set aside for your own care. Your clinician loses preparation that has already been done. And another client, often someone on our waitlist waiting for an urgent appointment, misses out on a session that could have gone to them.
More than 48 hours notice: no fee. Under 48 hours notice, or non-attendance: full session fee. The fees are not a penalty. They exist so we can keep providing consistent, high quality care to everyone we see.
If something has come up, the best thing you can do is reschedule rather than cancel, and the best way to do that is to phone us on (02) 6693 2112. A reschedule keeps your care moving forward and keeps your time with your clinician intact. Phoning is much quicker than email and lets us find a new time with you on the spot. Rescheduling at short notice is treated the same as a cancellation for fee purposes, but a phone call early in the day often means we can find a workable solution together.
A few things worth knowing
Genuine emergencies, illness or crisis. Fees may be waived at your clinician's discretion. Just let us know as early as you can.
To reschedule, call (02) 6693 2112 during admin hours, or reply to your appointment confirmation email. Please do not reply to SMS reminders, they are not monitored.
Reschedule and cancellation fees are charged to the card on file and are not claimable through Medicare or private health.
If you are experiencing financial hardship or repeat health challenges affecting your attendance, please talk to us early. We would much rather have the conversation than have things become a problem.
Ending therapy
Ascending Psychology encourages clients who are considering ending their treatment to discuss this in person with their therapist when possible. Ending well matters, and a final conversation with your clinician is often a valuable part of the therapeutic work itself. We understand this is not always possible, and there is no obligation.
